Operator Facilities: A new technology was introduced by LD Lines operator, which could drastically speed up the business at Portsmouth ferry port. Also, LD Lines operator is the first cross channel ferry operator to bring out self check-in facilities. The new technology of self check-in will allow drivers to identify themselves to a machine with their passport and booking details, which gives them clearance to board. The operator has installed foot passenger self check-in kiosks in the ports of Le Havre and Portsmouth and says bookings and ticket sales will also soon be made available via this same facility. Christophe Santoni, LD's managing director, said: “ As well as enjoying the on board experience, it's very important that all our customers are provided with an efficient, hassle-free service at our ports.” Fast Check-in:
“This is initially being introduced on the Portsmouth – Le Havre route throughout this summer and then if, as anticipated, positive customer feedback is received, we will look towards introducing self check-in and ticket sales facilities at all other ports to which we operate.” The Portsmouth to Le Havre is the longest route for the LD Lines and it takes one round trip per day with the vessel Norman Arrow. A spokesman for the firm said that it could 'considerably' cut waiting times for vehicles. He denied that the increased automation would reduce staffing numbers. |

He further said: “Whilst passengers will still be able to choose the traditional check-in methods, this new facility will provide a modern, fast and convenient alternative, further improving levels of service.”
